Black Daniel

Black Daniel

Words by David Whitehouse

Black Daniel seem to have appeared from nowhere. In absolute stealth mode, they have emerged from the reams of average London bands and have arrived quite noisily and unexpectedly.

The band have transient 4th and 5th members, but brothers Luke and Lamik 2000, plus New Yorker Craig Louis Higgins Jnr comprise the core Black Daniel crew. They play shows so chaotic and charmingly ramshackle, that word of mouth has generated a hardcore, loyal/nuts troop of BD-ites who follow the band around, like the gluttons for noise that they are. Apparently they’ve also recently caught the attention of Chairlift (OK, we like), Kasabian (um..) and Bryan Adams (?!), all of whom Black Daniel have supported, live.

‘Here Comes Caeser’/’I Love You But Don’t Touch Me Cos You’re Sick’, is the first proper single to be released from the band. A double A-side of schitzophrenic and musically disparate tracks that aptly introduce us to Black Daniel as the bizarrely-wonderful -band-of-many-musical-personalities that they are. ‘Here Comes Caeser’ is ‘ILYBDTMCYS’s macho, muscly older brother - all shouty and Kasabian-like, with pulsating LCD Soundsystem beats, whilst more temperate, easy going little brother ‘I Love You..’ is the straight forward radio record.

Seemingly uninterested in normal record company protocol, Black Daniel put together their own label - Dustbowl Recordings, and will release both tracks in, like, a week, or something. Oh, and High Rankin have provided a remix. Sigh… We like.
